Fox announced on Friday that Kim Raver and William Devane will revive their roles as the father-daughter team of Audrey Raines and James Heller in the upcoming “24” miniseries, “24: Live Another Day.”
Raver and Devane join Kiefer Sutherland (Jack Bauer) and Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe O’Brian) as the fan favorites who are on board for the resurrected series, which is slated to premiere in spring 2014.
Devane and Raver joined “24” during its fourth season in 2005. Devane played the secretary of defense and Raver played his daughter and Jack Bauer love interest.
Both characters appeared during the last part of the show’s sixth season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “24: Live Another Day” will be filmed in London and will begin several years after the events that transpired during the show’s last season.
While on the surface a “24” reboot is exciting, it’s not without its risks.
As it was, the final season of the show was not all that good and brought the Jack Bauer saga to an uninspiring end.
Perhaps this is why “24: Live Another Day” was announced earlier this year—to redeem the sorry ending dished out to the show’s loyal fan base. To right a wrong, so to speak.
What most of us are probably hoping for – at least this viewer is – is a return to the show’s glory days, circa its third through sixth seasons.
A pipe dream, perhaps, but stranger things have happened.
It’s difficult to recapture days gone by, especially in the TV biz where unique ideas are a rare commodity.
Let’s hope that “24: Live Another Day” is not just a lame attempt to milk the Jack Bauer money cow one last time.
If only there was a way to bring back Dennis Haysbert’s President David Palmer.
“24: Live Another Day” will air on Fox 13 in Provo during the spring TV season.
