To be honest, we’re more likely to get orders on a dress that Kim Kardashian’s worn,” Roland Mouret says. What? Can this be true?
Everyone has heard of the amazing sell-outs of Kate-worn, off-the-rack styles, so it’s interesting to hear that the phenomenon known as the “Duchess Effect” may happen even more often regarding Kim Kardashian. The difference could be regarded as sexy vs. ladylike. Put that way, it’s not so hard to believe.
Both Kim Kardashian and Kate Middleton have one style-choice in common. The future queen and the model both enjoy what the British call “high street” taste. They both are willing to forego designer duds much of the time, in favor of their favorite off-the-rack designers, such as Reiss and Zara for the Duchess of Cambridge and her own Dorothy Perkins line for Kim. Of course, Kim also has a closet full of black leather designs from Kanye West, but no one expects women to flock like sheep in that direction.
On one amazing occasion, both the duchess and the reality star wore the same Alexander McQueen dress, to separate occasions. Heads probably rolled at the fashion house after that. Whoever ordered first should have been the only sale. The other should have been steered in a different direction. That’s one of the things designers do – avoid selling the same design to competitors.
Huffington Post readers don’t agree with Roland Mouret. Asked whether Kim Kardashian out draws Kate Middleton in the fashion world, those who voted chose Duchess Catherine’s style over the reality star 69-31percent.
