Kim Kardashian’s video game, is proving to be highly addictive even to people who are not Kardashian fans. On July 26, the International Business Times marveled at how players have become so addicted to Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, despite the shallow nature of the game. It has amassed an incredible number of fans. Men and women from all walks of life are absolutely fascinated by Kim’s video game and sheepishly admit to being hooked.

Why has the game become so popular? Exactly what is the appeal of Kim Kardashian’s namesake video game which has even taken Wall Street by storm? JustJared.com reported on July 26, that the Wall Street Journal dubbed Kim Kardashian: Hollywood as “Wall Street’s New Favorite Game.”

The game has proven itself to be highly popular, even among people who are not Kardashian fans and have never watched a single episode of the Kardashian clan reality TV show.

Industry experts surmise that one reason for the game’s popularity is that it’s targeted to women gamers - a demographic that most video game developers ignore. But while Kim Kardashian: Hollywood may be targeted to women, a large number of men have confessed to becoming engrossed in the game

Much of the game’s appeal is that it gives ordinary people a taste of what it’s like to rise through the ranks to achieve A-list celebrity status and live like a Hollywood star. Many players are reporting that they’ve had to uninstall Kim Kardashian: Hollywood as to keep themselves playing this highly addictive game for hours on end.

Players seem utterly fascinated by the Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. The Internet is rife with stories of people who downloaded the game out of curiosity only to find themselves hooked. In the process of playing the game they get to interact with paparazzi, magazine editors, photographers, fans, and other celebrities as they date, travel, bar hop, attend parties and photo shoots, make personal appearances, build their fan base, make friends (or enemies), and see how quickly they can rise to the top. They can buy houses, furniture, designer clothes and accessories and various other accoutrements of celebrity life. In-app purchases range in price from $4.99 to $99.99.

People who have absolutely no interest in the Kardashians have been sucked into playing Kim’s namesake game and have found themselves powerless to stop. Some spending to amounts ranging from $50 to $500 on in-app purchases to help their personal celebrity character advance to higher levels in the game.

While it’s possible to advance through the ranks without spending real money, buying various items can quickly boost the star power and energy level of a player’s digital avatar and facilitate their rise to the top. Some players even make use of hacks to obtain unlimited energy, K stars and cash is they feel their progress to the top is too slow.

Even federal employees are getting in on the act. A few days ago, someone from the Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA) accidentally posted a message on the EPA’s Twitter feed about having reached C-list status in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, and inviting their friends to join them in playing the game. In Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, players can even compete against their friends if they add them from Apple's GameCenter, or their personal Facebook account.
