Kim Kardashian is thrilled with her 43-pound weight loss and recent engagement, but reveals she wasn't immune to the cruel fat-shaming she endured during her turbulent pregnancy.
"Every day I would hear people criticize me, and it would affect me," Kardashian told People Oct. 23. "Little by little it would chip away at my soul. I wanted to tune out the media and my public life and ignore it all."
Adding to her daily frustrations were the sensationalistic headlines about her weight gain, with tabloids claiming the 5-foot-2 brunette beauty tipped the scales at 220 pounds during her third trimester.
Kardashian initially laughed off the fat-shaming, insisting they didn't bother her, but deep down she was devastated by the mean-spirited weight bullying.
Kim has lost 43 of the 50 pounds she gained, just four months postpartum, thanks to the low-carb Atkins diet and regular exercise. She said her low-carb, high-fat diet enabled her to slim down without working out obsessively. When she does hit the gym, she does Pilates, boot-camp workouts, cardio sessions on the treadmill, and strength-training.
Kardashian, 33, said her weight loss has given her a renewed sense of pride and accomplishment. "Losing this weight has not been easy, but I did it, and that's so rewarding," she said.
"I was dedicated and motivated and that paid off. This makes me feel like I have the strength to take on other challenges."
