It's become a fashion tradition for brides: Shedding for the wedding. But when Kim Kardashian is the bride-to-be, she turns it into more than a way to look good in her gown: It's become an obsession, according to AZ Central. Her weight loss plan is the low carb high fat (LCHF) ketogenic Atkins diet, described in the best-selling "New Atkins for a New You: The Ultimate Diet for Shedding Weight and Feeling Great" (click for details).

Because she's so focused on sticking to the food plan, Kim is experiencing "Atkins mania," a source told OK magazine. She has banned starchy carbohydrates such as pasta and bread from her home, focusing on protein and green veggies.

"Her assistant has a bag of celery sticks with her at all times," said the source. (We are envisioning a person assigned to clean, scrape, wash and slice celery sticks at intervals throughout the day. Must have been an interesting job advertisement).

So just what is the "Atkins mania" diet that Kim's following to slip sleekly into her wedding gown? First, let's emphasize the skinny: It works. Kim has lost 50 pounds since giving birth to her daughter last June.

“What distinguishes the Atkins diet is the absence of a lot of carbohydrates, so that leaves out a lot of choices,” said Jonny Bowden in an interview with E News. Jonny is the author of "Living Low Carb: Controlled-Carbohydrate Eating for Long-Term Weight Loss" (click for more information).

And Jonny's a fan of the Atkins diet because "there really isn't a downside to it." The plan was recently updated to include more of an emphasis on fiber and healthy fats, both of which are detailed in "The New Atkins Made Easy: A Faster, Simpler Way to Shed Weight and Feel Great -- Starting Today."

The LCHF ketogenic diet is designed to shift the body to fat-burning mode. In addition, the protein and healthy fats in the plan satisfy hunger to avoid the common diet complaint of "I'm starving!"

Other recent additions to the Atkins weight loss plan include a cookbook, "The New Atkins for a New You Cookbook: 200 Simple and Delicious Low-Carb Recipes in 30 Minutes or Less," and a companion workbook: "The New Atkins for a New You Workbook: A Weekly Food Journal to Help You Shed Weight and Feel Great."

And if you don't have a personal assistant to carry around little bags of clean celery stalks for you, the Atkins product line includes snacks designed for different phases of the diet. Our favorite: Atkins Chocolate Candies, which are like M&M's but have just 110 calories per package and 1 gram net carbs: click for more information.
