Kim Kardashian made international headlines this week after unveiling her dramatic 25-pound weight loss. Kardashian said she has been following the Atkins diet to slim down, and has been drastically limiting carbs in an effort to regain her pre-baby body.
"Kim eliminated carbs completely," Us reported Oct. 18. "She has been working out here and there, but it's mainly about the food, Atkins-style."
The diet is definitely working, as Kardashian looks noticeably thinner than she did last week, and has been steadily losing weight (one to two pounds a week) on a nutrient-dense diet consisting of 1,800 to 2,200 calories a day.
More importantly, she has been limiting her daily carb intake to 50 to 60 net grams, which isn't a lot. An apple, for example, has 25 grams of carbs. But Kim isn't starving herself.
Her daily menu consists of lean animal proteins, Greek yogurt, nuts, and vegetables:
Breakfast: Omelette or Greek yogurt with berries and slivered almonds.
Snacks: One to two ounces of nuts or a guacamole dip with fresh veggies.
Lunch and dinner: A serving of fish, poultry, eggs, or lean red meat with lots of fiber-rich vegetables prepared with olive oil.
Atkins vice president Colette Heimowitz said Kardashian didn't want to follow an extreme low-calorie diet because she's breastfeeding, and a starvation diet would be unhealthy for milk production.
"Our goal was to pace her weight loss," she said. "She has lost a lot of inches and she's able to work out. The scale weight isn't generally what we focus on. That's when people get discouraged. [Atkins is] a lifestyle. Her body will take her where she wants to be."
For exercise, Kim has been doing Pilates, boot-camp workouts, cardio sessions on the treadmill, and strength-training. But her No. 1 weight-loss secret has been eating low-carb.
Kardashian said she wants to celebrate her weight loss by posing nude when she reaches her target weight. "I want to be one hot, sexy mama," she vowed. For now, she's content posting a racy swimsuit photo to Instagram.
