Kim Kardashian knows dressing well for success - but for job interviews?

Kim Kardashian has a new look. But would it work for a job interview at a business in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York or Chicago? Kardashian doesn’t spend time worrying about job interviews these days. But she demonstrated style smarts as a stylist and personal shopper to stars like Lindsay Lohan and the singer, Brandy. Kardashian is the subject of many jokes when it comes to her career qualifications. However, her style skills shouldn’t be condemned.

Kim Kardashian knows that deciding what to wear to an interview is a little complicated for a woman.

The basic principles of a classic, professional and understated look remain the same. That sounds simple enough, but the female side of the ledger is beset by a lot more "dos and don'ts.”

DO - Wear a conservative suit in a solid color or a subdued pattern.

DO - Skirt or pants will both work.

DO - Wear polished flats or low-heeled shoes.

DO - Make sure that nails are clean and trimmed.

DO - Choose a conservative nail polish.

DON'T

- Wear a skirt that is too tight or too short.

DON'T

- Wear anything too revealing.

DON'T

- Wear too much jewelry.

DON'T

- Overdo the fragrance.

DON'T

- Overdo the makeup.

The general idea is to aim for a look that does not call attention to itself or give an employer an excuse to say "no."

You may not know the dress code at a company, but you can fall back on the principle that it is safer to overdress for that first day than to under-dress. But keep it simple in any event. As Kim Kardashian has said, “I think my sense of style is evolving. I'm figuring out ways to be sexy without having to flaunt it.”

Overdressing may give you more freedom. It is easier to turn a formal outfit into something more casual than it is to improvise something formal from a casual look.

Does it really matter how you dress for an interview? Employers will not devote the time needed to get to the wonderful qualities that may well be hiding behind a bad first impression. Make a good one.
