When Kim Kardashian gets an idea, she will do whatever she needs to make sure it comes to fruition. Apparently, that also means breaking the law and going against trademarks if that what needs to happen for her to get her business name. The three Kardashian sisters often create their own business names with the letter “K” and now that they are launching a beauty line, they have one big battle for the name. According to a new Wetpaint Entertainment report released on March 15, Kim Kardashian is concerned because with her pregnancy and pending divorce, stress is the last thing she needs.
This entire lawsuit drama actually started back in 2011, when the girls decided to talk about their Khroma beauty line before it even launched. However, the girls didn’t realize that there was already a beauty line with the name Chroma Beauty. Apparently, the owner Michael Rey filed a lawsuit against the sisters because the name was too similar to his company and he knew that they would completely overpower him. And a judge seems to agree with him.
“I developed the Kroma line myself, built my business through my own hard work and took the legal steps necessary to protect it,” makeup artist Lee Tillett said in a press statement, as Lee owns a line called Kroma Beauty. “And yet I have now been forced into legal battle with the Kardashians simply because they have decided to take something that doesn’t belong to them.” And as for the courts? Well, it sounds like the Kardashians will lose. “The court has little doubt that, in short order, the Khroma Beauty products will likely eliminate Tillett’s business entirely, creating irreparable harm sufficient to justify an injunction.”
At this point, both sides have seven days to respond. Do you think the Kardashians need to find a new name?
