Kim Kardashian is ready to join the latest trend of Hollywood mothers, placentophagy, based on the premiere episode of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," aired Sunday.
Earlier celebrity moms to say they embraced placentophagy, which is the practice of eating one's own placenta include Holly Madison and January Jones.
To be clear, it's not as though Kardashian will eat her placenta right after it is expelled (the placental expulsion is also known as the afterbirth). Instead, she will have her placenta turned into pills that she will take. At least -- if she goes the typical route, that is.
Ingesting the placenta is purported to aid in a mother's recovery as well as helping to reduce or even prevent postpartum depression. That practice is known as placentophagy. In Kardashian's case, she has a more vain reason. She hopes that ingesting her placenta will help her look younger.
On Sunday's episode, Kardashian, 33, asked her doctor, "Why would a normal human want to eat their own placenta? Don’t you think it makes you younger?,” adding that “I really want to do it."
His response didn't validate the beautification portion of her question, but he didn’t discourage her from the practice. He said: "Some people believe in that. There is (sic) whole cookbooks on placentas, you know."
To that, matriarch Kris Jenner replied, "Yuck. I don't think we're going to be eating the Fountain of Youth, if you know what I mean."
