Kim Kardashian, Dr. Phil targeted in new anti self help book

On Tuesday, the latest self-help title with a twist dropped to rave reviews. Stemming from the philosophy that the self is more powerful than most self help books on the shelf, "You Don’t Need a Self-Help Book: Replacing the Shelf with Yourself" takes aim at contemporary self-help gurus like Dr. Phil and, more emphatically, a plethora of lesser known "self-help charlatans" and celebrities.

"Some will recall," the author writes, "a recent sketch on The Late Show in which David Letterman unveiled a soon-to-be released self-help book from Dr. Phil. The title? 'More Advice I Pulled Out of My Ass.' Sure, it's funny. But here's the sad part. If Dr. Phil actually released that book, it would still shoot straight to number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Why? Because our collective appetite for feel-good nonsense is insatiable. But, incredibly, the real nonsense of it all - and perhaps the root cause of our modern obsession with self-help - is the paradoxical fashion in which we lead our lives and where we choose to concentrate our confidence."

Kim Kardashian and Michael Vick are also among the prominent names who get poked and prodded in the hot new book.

"As more of a self-help junkie than I would care to admit (I read a lot of self-help books)," one reviewer on Amazon.com writes, "this was really an eye-opening wake up call about the self-help industry and all the money I've probably wasted on pretty covers with empty messages. Although this isn't billed as a self-help book in the traditional sense, it very much is a self-help book. The author's consistent argument, which is made with humor and blunt talk, really does resonate as inspiring to me. This is probably the first so-called 'self-sufficiency' book I've found enjoyable to read..."

The title was released by "New Beginnings" publishing as an exclusive eBook now available for $4.95. To check it out, click here.
