Kim Kardashian doesn't qualify for getting a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, according to those who manage the popular tourist attraction. Kim's boyfriend Kanye West advocated for Kardashian to get a star while appearing on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last week. But the reality TV star isn't even on the landmark's managers' radar screen, spokeswoman Ana Martinez told the Daily News on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Martinez told the publication that they don't even have a category for reality stars. Plus, she said Kanye went about it all wrong by going on national TV, before checking with them as to whether Kim even qualifies for a star.
Kanye West, 36, complained to Jimmy Kimmel last week that his 32-year-old baby mama deserves a star on the Walk of Fame. He cited Kim's international fame and long-running reality TV show as reasons she should be honored with a star.
"They’re not giving a performance, it’s just them going through their daily lives and rituals on TV. We honor people who’ve acted in or directed or produced an award-winning show or film. And it’s the same with music, people who maybe have gold records", Martinez said.
West went on to basically say the Walk of Fame committee is antiquated and not up to date, clinging to old concepts of fame.
But Martinez responded saying that reality TV stars may qualify in the future, should they begin to be nominated for, or win, an Emmy, Oscar, Grammy or other major award given in recognition of a performance.
Martinez added that although she understands Kanye loves Kim, he went about campaigning for her to get a star in the wrong way.
She told the News you just don't go on national TV, before checking whether Kim even qualifies for the honor, which Martinez reiterated she does not.
After his talk show appearance, Kim Kardashian tweeted later that night that Kanye's Jimmy Kimmel interview was the truth.
