After losing 56 pounds on a high fat low carb ketogenic diet, Kim Kardashian is determined to maintain her weight loss success. So she's decided to focus on fitness with a home gym designed to shape her derriere, reported Metro UK on Wednesday.
Kim's new Bel-Air palace features a room designed specifically for her exercise gadgets and gear. She already works regularly with personal trainers who can guide her on filling up the room with pricey power products.
"The room will have butt-toning gym equipment, including the ProForm Booty Firm, the Yukon Fitness Butt and Thigh Shaper, the Suzanne Somers Buttmaster and a range of butt-toning belts and resistance bands," said a source who apparently memorized the shopping list. And on the topic of essentials, a "dedicated cellulite-busting area" and "bum spa" are included.
The name brands of the fitness equipment may offer a hint of future brand endorsements. Kim has already publicized the Atkins high fat low carb ketogenic Atkins diet in her role as celebrity spokeswoman.
But the Atkins diet has undergone modifications since its origin, according to Colette Heimowitz, author of "The New Atkins Made Easy: A Faster, Simpler Way to Shed Weight and Feel Great -- Starting Today." In an exclusive interview, she told me that more than 80 clinical trials have examined the program. On the basis of that research, recommendations have been made.
Colette, who advised Kim on her diet plan, revealed, "We now have a requirement of 12 to 15 net carbs (total carbs minus fiber) that need to come in the form of vegetables. This helps the dieter meet fiber requirements without having to supplement."
As for those who envision Kim eating massive amounts of steak to stay on the plan? "It is no longer an all the protein you can eat program. We also put more emphasis on healthy fats such as olive oil, avocado, seeds/nuts and their oils and butters, said Colette, who also has helped dieters to add variety to the plan with her cookbook "The New Atkins for a New You Cookbook: 200 Simple and Delicious Low-Carb Recipes in 30 Minutes or Less."
In addition to the Atkins low carb diet and her home gym, Kim regularly attends Barry's Bootcamp in southern California. Trainer and COO of the gym Joey Gonzalez recommends his clients supplement their workouts at the bootcamp with a combination of cardio and strength-training at home, he told me in an exclusive interview.
"Essential equipment would be a treadmill and weights. Nothing burns fat faster and gets you more ripped than a running and strength training combination," Joey told me.
How does a ketogenic high fat low carb diet impact Kim's cardio capacity? Studies show that athletes fueled by fat rather than carbohydrates equal or outperform their peers, according to Dr. Stephen Phinney, co-author of "New Atkins for a New You: The Ultimate Diet for Shedding Weight and Feeling Great."
In addition, he conducted research showing that obese individuals on low carb diets who engaged in moderate exercise programs became keto-adapted after only a week on the plan. They subsequently shed more weight and had higher levels of energy.
