Kim Kardashian and Khloe finish 5k Mud Run: Their diet and weight loss secrets

Khloe and Kim Kardashian enjoyed some sisterly bonding this weekend running the 5K Survivor Mud Run challenge in Northern California. Khloe posted an Instagram photo Saturday of her and Kim sliding into a pool of muddy water wearing bandanas over their faces to hide their identities.

"We Mud Run This Town," Khloe wrote in the photo caption. The Survivor Mud Run is a 5K race that involves 20 obstacles that test each runner's ability to climb, jump, crawl and run. The event was likely filmed for Kim's reality TV show, "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."

Kim Followed Low-Carb Ketogenic Diet

Kim, who recently lost 56 pounds on a low-carb ketogenic Atkins diet, has reportedly been stepping up her diet and workout regimen to slim down ahead of her May 24 wedding to Kanye West. She has now cut out almost all carbs in a bid to slip into her form-fitting wedding dress.

Kardashian's slim-down involved a low-carb, high-fat ketogenic-style diet known for producing rapid weight loss. Her low-carb ketogenic diet consisted of 1,800 to 2,200 calories and limited daily carb intake to 50 grams. Her daily menu combined proteins like fish, chicken and meat, healthy fats like olive oil, avocados and nuts, and fresh vegetables.

Kim also exercises almost every day, combining cardio workouts like running on the treadmill or the elliptical trainer with strength-training and lots of squats. Dietitians say the low-carb Atkins and ketogenic diets are a safe and effective way to produce rapid weight loss.

“There's nothing dangerous about the Atkins diet,” said nutrition expert Jonny Bowden, author of Living Low Carb. “There really isn't a downside to it."

Is a Tight Corset Kim's Weight-Loss Secret?

Kardashian's upcoming wedding has spawned a spate of rumors. Recent reports claim Kim has been wearing a tight corset to bed every night to streamline her waist. The measure sounds drastic, but actress Jessica Alba has credited wearing double corsets around the clock for three months for her dramatic post-baby weight loss.

Some fitness experts claim wearing a corset draws in the muscles around the core and helps you sweat out toxins. Others say wearing corsets do more harm than good.

"Corsets push your lungs and liver up, and your intestines down," said gynecologist Dr. Sarah Gottfried, author of the Hormone Cure. "The result is a smaller waist, but organs are out of their natural placement in your body.”

Meanwhile, Khloe recently showed off her impressive 30-pound weight loss, which she attributed to a portion-controlled diet and rigorous gym workouts. Khloe said she did not resort to any extreme diets, but ate merely small portions of healthy foods like vegetables, salads and proteins.

Peterson, creator of Core Secrets: 25 Minute Full Body Workout, said Khloe's workouts include plyometric pushups, hauling a sled, dead lifts, resistance bands and ab exercise. When she's not at the gym, Khloe hikes and does Pilates.
