The jury in the federal corruption case against former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, Bobby Ferguson and Bernard Kilpatrick announced its verdict Monday morning. Kwame Kilpatrick and Ferguson were found guilty of the worst of the charges.
Kwame Kilpatrick was convicted on 24 of 30 charges, from racketeering and extortion to mail and wire fraud.
His friend, contractor Bobby Ferguson, was found guilty on 9 of 11 counts, including racketeering and extortion.
Kwame Kilpatrick’s father Bernard avoided liability on a serious charge, and was convicted only of subscribing to a false tax return in 2004.

The corruption trial lasted about five months.
A detention hearing is scheduled for this afternoon to determine whether the defendants should be remanded. The prosecution will likely argue that they constitute a flight risk.
On the racketeering counts, Kilpatrick and Ferguson face as much as 20 years in federal prison.
