The debut graphic novel by Colorado author Mario Acevedo, Killing the Cobra, brings vampire hero, Felix Gomez blazing into the world heroin market and the underworld, and pits him against the Han Cobras, the leading cartel, that’s rapidly dominating the global market. While lacking the depth of his vampire PI novel series, Killing the Cobra brings Gomez, Iraq war hero turned vampire, right into the crux of the drug trafficking world, with a sharp delivery that minces no words. The color illustrations, by Alberto Dose, draw readers into the hard-core violence without being overly gruesome. Gomez is a good guy vampire that works for the Araneum, the world-wide network of vampires in covert operations to rid the world of this evil crime syndicate. Killing the Cobra brings him one step closer to taking down the head of the Han Cobras, Jiang Chow, and allows him to throw a temporary delay into Cobra operations. Although intended as a companion to Acevedo’s Felix Gomez Adventure series, (Werewolf Smackdown; Jailbait Zombie; The Undead Kama Sutra; X-Rated Bloodsuckers; and The Nymphos of Rocky Flats), this graphic novel easily stands on its own.
