Well, how are you doing with the fleas this year? Killing them is easy, it's keeping them off, that is a challenge!
If you're reading this, you are probably suffering, like many of us are.
Sure, chemicals kill them; I get that. But, it's also not good for the pet; or you and the family. Fleas are so bad this year, it's been a challenge not to resort to chemicals!
So what are the options? Many essential oils have not worked! and anything you put on your pet, he will lick off! Lavender, while not toxic, has little effect. Tea tree oil, wintergreen oil, peppermint oil, camphor oil, and coconut oil, all gave little relief. The fleas are voracious this year!
Bathing works best, with Ajax or Dawn dish soap; also Fels Naptha, at a 1.49 a bar at Kroger, kills those little devils (probably head lice too); and SALT! Salt Salt Salt!!! Yes, salt kills fleas. Put it in the bath water, try a spray bottle of salt water; and you can use a comb dipped in salt water to kill them. Combing is time and labor intensive, but you see the results! Dead Fleas! Dollar General has a metal flea comb, and again, it would be great for head lice, at 1.79 for the comb.
I put the dog in the bath tub, with about an inch of salt water, then combed him. The fleas jumping off, land in the water and die. The fleas caught in the comb are swished off in the salt water, and die.
You can salt your floors and carpet, and spray a salt water mix on couches and beds. Again, head lice will also be killed by the same methods. Also, blow dryers are an excellent bug cooker, but please...don't use a blow dryer on your pet!, the furniture and beds only.
Cedar chips deter the fleas outside, and possibly Cedar Oil would help keep them off the pet? I have not tried it yet, but it's my next choice.
Good Luck, and tell me your experiences, please.
