A new exhibition exploring the history of the high-heeled shoe is coming to the Brooklyn Museum this fall, the museum announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Organized by Lisa Smalls, curator of exhibitions, the exhibition, titled "Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe," features more than 160 historical and contemporary heels from designers and from the Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It examines high-heeled shoes such as stilettos, wedges and platforms through a variety of lens: as a fashion statement, a forum for artistic expression, a fetish, a fantasy and an instrument of power.

"From the high platform chopines of sixteenth-century Italy to the glamorous stilettos on today's runways and red carpets, the exhibition looks at the high-heeled shoe's rich and varied history and it's enduring place in our popular imagination," the museum's official website stated.

Contemporary heels featured in the exhibition include "Printz" from Christian Louboutin's Spring/Summer 2013-2014 collection, Zaha Hadid's chromed vinyl rubber, kid nappa leather and fiberglass "Nova" shoe (2013) and Iris van Herpen's 3D printed heel "Beyond Wilderness" (2013), according to the museum's press release.

Six specially commissioned short films will also be presented alongside the objects in the exhibition. The filmmakers are Ghada Amer, Reza Farkhondeh, Zach Gold, Nick Knight, Steven Klein, Rashaad Newsome and Marilyn Minter.

The exhibition will run from Sept. 10, 2014 to Feb. 15, 2015 in the Robert E. Blum Gallery at the Brooklyn Museum on 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, NY 11238. Click here for museum hours and ticket prices.
