On Saturday, December 10, 2011 a group of Asbury Park youth took over the Asbury Park Beach Front. They were there to participate in the first Annual Kids Beach Run. The event included runs for each grade level from Kindergarten to 8th grade at increasing distances on the beach.
It was on the chilly side but the many participants had fun as they made their way on the sandy beach to the finish.
The event was hosted by the Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Asbury Park. After the runs the kids were treated to pizza courtesy of Johnny Mac’s on Main Street in the city.
Many of the teachers and faculty from the school were on hand as well as parents cheering the kids on as they ran. Jersey Shore Running Club volunteers were also on hand to help set up the races.
Vicki Hoagland of Interlaken one of the event organizers was excited about the event and encouraged the runners as they finished. She was already heard planning for next year's event.
