Are you between the ages of 8 and 17? Do you love aviation and want to feel what it's like to fly in a general aviation airplane? Want the opportunity to see Lake Michigan, Great America and maybe even downtown Chicago or Milwaukee from the air?
If so, getting to the 2010 Waukegan Air Show at Waukegan Regional Airport on Saturday, September 11th early can get you up in the air. The EAA Young Eagles program will be offering flights to kids between the ages of 8 and 17. EAA Chapter 414 is providing free flights as part of the groups Young Eagles program. The EAA states that "The EAA Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8 - 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers."
Normally, reservations are made prior to a flight; however, due to the size of the event and timing, flights will be on a first come, first served basis. The Young Eagles flights will take place from 09:00 to 11:30 and early arrival is recommended. The airshow itself will begin at 12:30, allowing plenty of time between your Young Eagle flight and the show to explore the displays and airplanes on the Air Show grounds.
There is an admission fee to the Air Show of $10 per person. Children 12 and under are free.
The EAA Young Eagles program has provided flights to over 1,500,000 kids in an effort to increase interest in aviation and encourage kids to pursue a pilot's license. Your name will be listed in the 'World's Largest Logbook" with all the other Young Eagle kids and you will be able to go to the logbook website, enter your name and see your entry as well as have the opportunity to print a color certificate to commemorate your flight.
