Kids, grab a notebook and pencil and start writing. Today I want you to examine your life, family, hobbies, and interests. Think about that and write a story that includes as much of the following information as possible:
Your name
Date and place of birth
Statistics at birth - length and weight, eye and hair color, and any distinguishable marks
Where did you live when you were born? A house, apartment, condo? Who lived with you? Your parents? Grandparents? Aunts, uncles, and cousins?
What are your parents's full names? What are their dates and places of birth?
Who are your siblings? What is their information?
Are you religious?
What schools have you attended? Who were your teachers and what were your favorite subjects?
Have you achieved anything? Did you win a contest or receive award?
What interests and hobbies do you have? Do you play any sports? Are you on any teams?
Do you have pets? What kind?
Do you have a best friend? Who is it? What do you like to do together and where do you hang out?
Make a timeline of important events in your life. Put in your birth date, the first day of preschool, the first day of school, and other important events.
Add historical events to the timeline. For example: My son was born January 2001. I would put that on his timeline then mark his birthdays each year. I would mark the date he started school and the dates he did something important.
After adding information about his life I could add history - 11 September 2001 was an important day in history. He was only 8 months old but it is something I would add to his timeline. I could then talk about the importance of that day. Say where he was. Say where I was, which was not at work at Shedd Aquarium in Chicago that day. I was at home with him instead for some reason.
Write down how much things cost that you use every day. Need some ideas? Gas for your car, cost of bread or milk. Cost of your computer or laptop, cell phone, IPad, and those sorts of things.
Have you taken a vacation? Where did you go? What trip was your absolute favorite?
Take the time to not only record your family's history but yours as well. You will be glad you did in the future when you and your children can look back at a piece of history.
