Kidnapped boy set free, drives abductor crazy by repeatedly singing gospel song

A 10-year-old Atlanta boy kidnapped from his own front yard was later set free because of his singing, he claims. Or rather, he was set free because he kept singing. According to the youngster, when he wouldn't stop singing Hezekiah Walker's "Every Praise," his abductor simply gave up and let him go.

Yahoo News reported April 23 that, on the last day of March, 10-year-old Willie Myrick was taking care of his pet, a Chihuahua, when he spied some money by a tree. After running over to inspect the find, he was grabbed by a man and forced into a Honda Civic.

"He was cursing at me, telling me to shut up, and didn't want to hear a word from me," Willie told WSB-TV in Atlanta. "He said if I told anyone he would hurt me, like, in a bad way."

Willie said that he kept singing "Every Praise" over and over. It irritated the kidnapper so much that, after three hours of driving around and listening to the boy, not to mention telling him to shut up numerous times, he simply dropped the boy off by the side of the road in East Point, Ga.

Willie went door-to-door, seeking help. An elderly man heard the boy's story and called authorities and Willie's guardian.

He was taken to a nearby hospital and examined. He had escaped the kidnapping without being physically harmed.

Organizations concerned about the abduction and other recent crimes against children in the Atlanta metro area have posted a $10,000 reward in the investigation to capture Willie Myrick's kidnapper.

According to Fox News Insider, Willie has since met Hezekiah Walker and sang "Every Praise" with the gospel singer. Walker is a popular gospel singer, performer, and radio personality and has won two Grammy Awards (out of 12 nominations overall, according to his ministry website) for Best Gospel Album By Choir Or Chorus: Live in Atlanta at Morehouse College (1994) and Love Is Live! (2001). "Every Praise" appeared on Walker's last release, 2013's Azusa: The Next Generation.

Police currently have no leads in the case. However, a sketch of the kidnapper has been released in an effort to generate tips.
