Celebrate all things goat at the second Annual Goat Festival on Saturday, April 16 at the Ferry Plaza Farmers’ Market in San Francisco. It’s a hands-on introduction to artisan goat’s milk cheeses, kefir, yogurt, candy, soaps and lotions, sandwiches and snacks.
The event kicks off at 10:00 a.m. including …
- Product sampling, baby goat encounters (bring your kids -- Redwood Hill Farm and Creamery are bringing theirs) and free Ferry Market Goat Guide activities are ongoing from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
- “Meet the Makers” from 10 – 11:00 a.m. including Jennifer Bice of Redwood Hill Farm and Creamery, Mary Keehn of Cypress Grove Chevre, Laura Howard of Laloo’s Goat Milk Ice Cream, Michael Winnike of Happy Goat Caramel, Maggie Foard of Kidding Around with Chocolate, and Sylvia Melendez of Tierra Mia Organics
- Cooking demonstrations: 11-12:00 – Mark Scarbrough and Bruce Weinstein cook from the first-ever all-goat cookbook, GOAT: Meat, Milk, Cheese. 12-1:00 p.m. – Laura Werlin cooks from her new book Grilled Cheese Please! 50 Scrumptiously Cheesy Recipes.
It’s all over at 1:00 p.m., so get an early start.
So try the kefir, taste the cheese, eat the candy (goat’s milk fudge from Kidding Around with Chocolate and Happy Goat Caramel), sample the sandwiches, eat the ice cream (Laloo’s Goat Milk Ice Cream), and test the hand cream (Tierra Mia Organics).
Parking is terrible, so take BART into San Francisco. When you pop out of the ground at the Embarcadero station, head for the Ferry building; the market is a block away.
Details, a complete list of participants and the full schedule of events are available at http://www.cuesa.org/page/goat-festival-2011. The Goat Festival, hosted by the Ferry Plaza Farmers’ Market in San Francisco is a joint presentation of CUESA (the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture) and northern California makers of goats’ milk products.
It’s free. It’s fun. You should go.
