Well, it looks like the Pac-12 finally got involved at worked out a deal to allow half a dozen Pac-12 Men’s Basketball contests produced by Fox Sports onto KICU channel 36. This includes Saturday’s tip-off with Cal at Stanford.
It also includes three other matchups that feature the Bears: At Colorado on Sunday the 27th, hosting Oregon on February 2, and a visit from USC on the 17th.
There are also two additional tilts that don’t involve Cal or Stanford: UCLA at USC on February 24 and Arizona State at Arizona on March 9.
Unfortunately for Bay Area viewers, there are still eight other upcoming matchups that KICU won’t air, including Arizona at Arizona State which is the first game of this Saturday’s doubleheader, and UCLA at Arizona State next Saturday.
That total also doesn’t include four contests that have already aired, two of which featured the Bears, and another one that had the Cardinal.
This previous article explains why this hasty deal with KICU came to be.
If you’re a fan of any of the other Pac-12 schools, or if you just want to see how they’re doing compared to Cal or Stanford, this compromise is lacking. But it’s apparently the best deal the conference could negotiate.
At least all remaining contests with our local squads are available. And KICU is a free over-the-air station, so if you don’t have cable or satellite but can pick up its signal with an antenna, you can watch.
I think you’ll agree: It’s better than nothing, which is what we previously had.
Now if we could just get both teams to play better…
