Go Extinct!

The designers of a new science game for kids are raising money to bring their game to the market, but they're also offering free PDF versions of the game to all educators for free.

Go Extinct! is an evolution-based card and board game. Designer Ariel Marcy says:

Inspired by the Go Fish we all nostalgically remember (from rainy afternoons driving our parents up the wall with unending repeat games), Go Extinct! infuses new life into the old stand-by with strategy and science.

She explains:

Go Extinct! is a revolutionary evolutionary card game for humans aged 8 and up. The game set includes a deck of 54 beautifully-illustrated animal cards and a simplified, yet accurate, evolutionary tree board used for reference during play.

Players attempt to collect all of the cards in each clade. Along the way, they learn about animal families, how species are related, extinct animals and much more.

The game is designed for kids ages 8 and up.

The Kickstarter campaign currently has 47 backers and just over $2,500 of its $15,000 goal. Backers who pledge $30 or more will receive the game, which includes a deck of 54 color illustrated cards and a game board. Those in the first 50 to pledge at that level will also receive a science-themed music CD. Backers at higher levels receive additional bonuses, including a classroom pack for $100 and other incentives.

You can find out more about the campaign here.

As with all Kickstarter campaigns, no charges are incurred unless the campaign meets its goal and the project moves to production.

The game is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2014.

Educators can also sign up to receive PDF versions of the game for free once it's completed. Go Extinct! says:

We're committed to making high quality education available to all classrooms, regardless of a school's ability to foot the funding. Offering teachers a free version of Go Extinct! as printable PDFs is one way we're walking the talk! Go Extinct! is Next Generation Science Standards aligned and you can read our in-depth standards-alignment document here:
