Big news following last night's season finale of HBO's Entourage with guest star Sasha Grey: She's on the cover of Playboy's October 2010 issue, unveiled today.
Grey's been balancing a career in hardcore pornography with increasing crossovers into mainstream meda, collecting adult entertainment industry awards in the same year of her breakthrough performance in Steven Soderbergh's The Girlfriend Experence and other crossover successes. The real-life question was implicit in last night's Entourage plotline: Is the rest of the world ready to accept a hardcore porn star for what she is, and grant her mainstream success to boot?
In Grey's case, what she turns out to be is a well-rounded woman with many talents -- as a writer, model, musician, director, actress, and, yes, one of the most hardcore performers the porn industry has ever seen. All that complexity turned out to be too much for Vincent Chase, Adrian Grenier's character on Entourage: He ultimately balked at his girlfriend shooting a new porn feature, even though he knew what he was getting into from the start, and went off on a cocaine-fueled tear that leaves plenty of loose knots to tie up in the next season of the show.
