We city folk tend to get a bit smug. Visitors ask us "where should we grab a coffee?" and, evidently self-satisfied, we rattle off the 3 local shops within walking-distance, careful to note that this is better than that if you want a whatever, "or we could always just go to Starbucks, HA!" While everything your heart desires, food-wise, may not always be right on your doorstep, it's almost always within a few easy public-transit stops. Any further out and it's a fun - and very urban - adventure.
Bostonians, though, will be knocked down a peg in the next weeks (and, if Wellesley is lucky, months), as one of its favorite local luminaries is setting up shop in the suburbs. Brace yourself, diehard urbanites: Kickass Cupcakes is heading to Wellesley.
The new location will be inside Wellesley's Gelato Cafe, and will be a "limited edition" outpost, designed to test out how ready the suburbs are for Sara Ross's scrumptious - and very specific - brand of expertise. Assuming that the people of Wellesley have tastebuds, I'd bet the new location will soon become permanent.
But don't worry, Boston. You can still console yourself by taunting out-of-towners with your six different Indian restaurants "just around the corner - are you in the mood for great Southern-indian cuisine, or really AUTHENTIC tikka masala?" Just don't be surprised if they prefer picking up the dessert on their way home.
