Kick off to National Dog Week

Many may not be aware that Sunday marked the kick off to National Dog Week. National Dog Week started back in 1928, an impressive 82 years ago.

Captain William Lewis Judy, a dog enthusiast, pioneered National Dog Week -- a week to celebrate the canines that faithfully served in the military, as well as the dogs that provide loyal, enduring companionship to so many people across the nation.

Fellow Examiner (Newark Pets Examiner) Lisa Begin-Kruysman has an enlightening, fun-to-read blog dedicated to National Dog Week. The blog, Nationaldogweekbook's Blog, highlights the history of this movement, and the people that have helped to keep the celebration alive.

Lisa has also written a book chronicling the history of National Dog Week. Every Dog Has Its Week: How Seven Days in September Came to Celebrate Dogs and the People Who Love Them, represented by the Parkeast Literary Agency, strives to share the true origin of William Judy's Dog week ideals -- telling the true story behind Judy's inspiration for this celebration.

Familiarize yourself with the history and inspiration behind National Dog Week by visiting Lisa's blog. Each day, she will be highlighting people and/or organizations that help make the nation a better place for both man and dog ... something we could all benefit from in this day and age where dog abuse seems to be running rampant.

Here is a quick note to say that I came across your article on National Dog Week as I was working on an article on the same topic but from a different perspective. I provided links to your article and the National Dog Week blog you mentioned.

Here is the link to Examiner my article. I trust you will enjoy it.
