Kia's New Soul: 2014 Kia Soul Review

See also

In the now next generation of the Kia Soul, many changes have taken place from the outside in.

The model year 2014 design is sleeker overall, with a more stylish, upscale look and more....

  • A new front grill with an upper chrome and black accent, a sleek new headlamp design that puts the first generation’s to shame and includes self leveling Xenon headlights with LED accents that can be manually illuminated to run by day and automatically with the headlamps by night
  • The Rear fascia has also been revised with new set of LED Tail lights
  • Side view mirrors fold-in automatically when you push the button on the door handles to lock the car. Upon your re-approach the mirrors automatically unfold sensing the proximity of your key fob.
  • Soul's rims range from 16 inches at the $14,700 base model trim level, with optional 17 inch rims at the $18,200 Plus level and an all set of new “mack daddy” rims at the top of the line $20,300 ! level, is standard in 18-inches.
  • Privacy glass is another great feature when it comes to being discrete, while also softening the sun rays on the interior fabrics and passengers.

Speaking of the interior, a huge improvement over the first generation Soul is the wind noise level reduction. The cabin is now far more quiet at highway speeds. That in combination with the new exterior styling, the panoramic glass sunroof with a power sunshade---places the new Kia Soul on a plateau in its class, leaving Scion’s XB and Nissan’s cube in the dust!

Add to that heated and cooled front passenger seats with heated seats for rear seat passengers, automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel, leather trim seating, push to start, full Bluetooth functions with steering wheel controls and you’ll feel like a big baler in the lap of luxury pushing a top of the line Soul!

Also worth touting is Soul’s big 8-inch monitor, a navigation system with voice recognition and navigation directions that appear smack dab in front the driver via the information screen, and other applications such as Pandora and more.

Unlike other subscription based services, Kia offers UVO with compliments, to aid in emergencies, for roadside assistance, for directions, for parking and more—again, all without subscription fees.

Under the hood, the base model Soul includes a 1.6 liter, 130 horsepower engine. The next two levels up include a 2.0 liter, 164 horsepower engine with 151 pound-eet of torque that feels appropriate for a vehicle of its weight class.

A smooth shifting, six speed transmission helps Soul to score a combined fuel economy rating of 26 miles per gallon, which breaks down to 23 miles per gallon in city driving, 31 miles per gallon on the highway.

Finally, Soul’s warranty includes basic coverage at 5 years or 60,000 miles, including roadside assistance. Rust is 5 years of 100,000 miles, with a 10 year / 100,000 miles of coverage on the drive train.

Bottom-line, if you’re looking for a hot little whip with comfortable seating for four, decent cargo space including fold down rear seats to help haul around plenty of “stuff,” and still score decent gas mileage, the 2014 Kia Soul might just be the solution you’ve been awaiting.
