The one word that every addict needs for recovery. Family and friends confronting you about your issue(s) and how it affects them. This is something that Khloe Kardashian arranged last Wednesday for her husband Lamar, however just like with the reality TV show and in real life, things don't always work out and they go joyfully off to rehab.
What some people do not realize about addiction, you decide to change your life when you realize you have hurt those you love too much. You will help yourself when you have lost everything you value, hate yourself and the way you are living and tell yourself that you deserve better than this and get help yourself. You have to want the help in order for treatment to be effective, apparently Lamar did not want help so Khloe after two years of fighting to save a marriage to someone who is addicted to crack let the secret out, staged the intervention, and when it went awry she kicked him out of the house. Now it is unknown as to his whereabouts, so to say.
Good for her, tough love is what addicts need to see the reality of how they have harmed people and themselves. Khloe you can't fix him and he needs help, but not yours. Funny thing about addiction is it touches the lives of all those involved and you either assist in the addiction or draw your boundary to save a life, or two because the non-addict is not the only one who needs to take a look at the role they have played in that lifestyle. The Betty Ford Clinic has programs to teach and inform families of addicts how to put things back into perspective and teach family how they affected the addict, because we all play our role and must take responsibility for our actions. And in helping an addict, are you disrupting your life and sanity is a good question to ask yourself. If yes, you may need an intervention.
