KGNU's "A Classic Monday" show features "Monday Evening at the Opera"

On Monday evening, March 29, from 8-10 pm, Chris Mohr hosts KGNU's Monday Evening at the Opera on A Classic Monday.

Mohr will be playing rare musical gems for the classical hour, then talking about the upcoming performances of Tosca with Opera Colorado's General Director Greg Carpenter.

Opera Colorado will be presenting Puccini's Tosca April 24, 27, 30 and May 2, 2010. Tosca is about a ruthless police chief's obsession with a celebrated opera singer which leads to betrayal and murder in this operatic thriller set among the historical landmarks of Rome.

Also scheduled for this show, Mohr will be speaking about CU Opera's upcoming performance of Ned Rorem's latest opera, Our Town, starring DLOG Vocal Competition winner Christie Hageman.  Our Town will be run at CU's Music Theatre from Thursday, April 22 through Sunday, April 25.  A mother's voice, the smell of bacon, a choir rehearsal, a soda shared at Mr. Morgan’s drug store—with the passage of time, daily routines and commonplace moments become special memories relayed in Our Town.

KGNU presents classical music differently than the typical public radio station.  Going beyond the tried an true standards of the 19th Century, KGNU explores classical music through the ages, from Baroque and Musica Antiqua to the Avant Garde and the unusual of this century.
