- DR. NANCY DAWSON: CIVIL WAR FOOD AND FOLKLORE
Grand Ma’s Recipes welcomes Special Guest Speaker and KFW Community Member Dr. Nancy Dawson on Saturday, February 11 at 11:00 am. There will be a special skit followed by an authentic soul food menu of chittlings and more. A donation at the door is asked to cover admission. - DISCUSSION WITH BODY|FIGURE|NUDE ARTISTS
The Lexington Art League will host the discussion on Saturday, February 11, at 1:00 pm. KFW Community Member Mary Rezny along with artists Don Ament, Kevin Gardner, Jack Girard, Sharon Lee Hart, and Hui Chi Lee will discuss the exhibit and take questions. Free and open to the public, the event will take place at the Lexington Art League’s Loudoun House, 209 Castlewood Drive, Lexington, KY.
- RE ANIMATIONS: REVIVING/REVISITING ELandF PROJECTS
On Thursday, February 16, 6:00-9:00 pm, ELandF will revive/revisit the performance art of past projects. The event will be held at Institute 193, 193 N. Limestone Street, Lexington, KY.
- OPEN MIC NIGHT AT GATEWAY REGIONAL ARTS CENTER
Includes live performances of music, poetry, and more. Free admission. The event will be held in the Small Performance Café at the Gateway Regional Arts Center, 101 East Main Street, Mt. Sterling, KY, on Thursday, February 16, at 6:30 pm. Call 859-498-6264 for more information.
- FREE GUIDED TOURS: KENTUCKY ARTISAN CENTER AT BEREA
On Saturday, February 11, from 10:30 am and 2:00 pm, the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea will offer visitors free guided gallery tours through the Center’s two current special exhibits. - THE 2012 U OF L VAGINA MONOLOGUES
As a part of V-Day, a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls, U of L is seeking to raise funds and awareness through their production of Eve Ensler’s play The Vagina Monologues. Proceeds support PEACC at UofL and women in Haiti. Performances will be held on Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11 at 7:00 pm in the Playhouse Theater, 1911 S. Third Street, Louisville, KY. Interpreters for the hearing impaired provided at all performances. Student tickets are $8 and general public tickets are $10.
- DANCE OF THE HEART WITH SHARON BUTTERFLY
A self-guided dance that seeks to move the body in emancipating ways. All ages and all levels of dance/movement skill are welcome. Event will take place Sunday, February 12, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm at Shine, a Wellness Studio, 732 E. Market Street, Louisville, KY. There is a $5-$10 suggested donation. - LEXINGTON VINTAGE DANCE WINTER CONCERT
On Sunday, February 12, 3:00 – 4:30 pm, the Lexington Vintage Dancers will perform four dances from the early 1900s, as part of the Madison Community Band’s Winter Concert. - BLUE APPLE ON BROADWAY EXTRAVAGANZA
Early bird special: a limited supply of half-price tickets available until Tuesday, February 14. Blue Apple Players event will take place at The Brown Theater, 315 W. Broadway, Louisville, KY, on Saturday, March 10, at 7:00 pm. Performances by Mary Gwen Wheeler, David Jones, Jr., Mayor Greg Fischer, Congressman John Yarmuth, Allan Cowen, Augusta and Gill Holland, and more. Cocktails and appetizers will be served before the show with desserts and drinks to follow. Early bird pricing is $50 per person; $100 per person after February 14. All proceeds support education programs for at-risk youth.
