Keystone Resort opens this Friday, Nov. 1, and plans to open its 2013-2014 ski season with 65 skiable acres on Dercum Mountain. Lifts open at 9 a.m. Friday with skiing and riding through 4 p.m. By the way, the forecast looks good for new snow starting tonight through Friday. Who knows? Perhaps even more terrain will open up by this weekend.
Keystone reports that, thanks to the round-the-clock efforts of Keystone’s snowmaking, grooming and mountain operations teams, the resort will open with top-to-bottom skiing and riding on the intermediate Spring Dipper and River Run trails accessed from the River Run gondola, Summit Express, Montezuma and Ranger lifts.
For beginners, the resort is offering a learning area at the top of the mountain on the Endeavor trail, complete with a carpet lift open to the public. Keystone’s Ski&Ride School will also have ski and snowboard lessons available starting Friday.
Keystone’s A51 Terrain Park will also open with more than 20 features on the Scout trail, all accessed by the designated Ranger chairlift. A beginner, intermediate and more advanced line will be available in the Park, each comprised of a selection of boxes and rails.
On opening day, you can pick up a warm donut from Keystone’s pastry chef Ned Archibald, as well as hot chocolate and coffee at the base of the River Run Gondola.
In honor of the resort’s 43rd season, the first 43 guests in line at the River Run Gondola will receive a Starbucks mug and gift card, while the first 200 skiers and riders in line for first chair will receive a raffle ticket, making them eligible for a number of prizes, including a GoPro Hero 3, a Never Summer snowboard and Keystone logo wear.
Epic Passholders will be eligible to receive a free Epic knit hat as one of the first 150 passholders to flash their pass at the Epic tent in Gondola Plaza.
On Friday and Saturday evening the Get Stoked movie festival at Warren Station, located in the heart of Keystone’s River Run Village, will feature some of the year’s best ski and snowboard films. Free parking will be available in all resort parking lots Friday, Saturday and Sunday in appreciation of guests visiting the resort on opening weekend.
Beginning Opening Day, Keystone’s Kids Ski Free offer will return for a second season with children 12 and under receiving free lift tickets with just a two or more night stay in any of Keystone’s owned/operated lodging units. Reservations may be made at Keystoneresort.com or by calling 800-328-1323.
Keystone has also introduced one-day advance purchase lift tickets online where you can purchase lift tickets at Keystonetickets.com one day before heading to the mountain. One-Day Peaks Advanced tickets will be available every day, all season long, offering up to 25% savings off window-rate tickets.
