Keys Community Concert Band to perform free Florida Heritage concert March 23

Five hundred years ago, Juan Ponce de Leon arrived on the east coast of Florida. The Keys Community Concert Band honors this significant anniversary with a concert of musical selections evoking the many attributes of our state. Florida Heritage Month from March 15-April 15 is a month-long tribute to the spirit of Florida. March’s Keys Community Concert Band concert has been accepted as an official event of Viva Florida and of Florida Heritage Month.

The band will perform Florida Heritage at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the Capital Bank Amphitheater at Founders Park, mile marker 87 bayside in Islamorada, under the directon of guest conductor Joseph Rayhill. A graduate of the University of Central Florida and former band director in Jacksonville, Rayhill is presently director of bands at Marathon Middle/High School.

The band presents a program with something for everyone’s musical taste. Hum along to Beach Baby or Swanee, enjoy South American rhythms with Fiesta Tropicale, or sit back with eyes closed to listen to Sunset Soliloquy and Tropical Winds.

Pops in the Park is funded, in part, by a grant from the Monroe County Tourist Development Council, administered by the Florida Keys Council of the Arts. The Hurlburt Family Foundation, First State Bank, and other local organizations provide additional funding. Donations are always welcome!

Bring your family and enjoy an outdoor concert on Florida Bay. For more information, find Keys Community Concert Band on Facebook or call 305-853-7294.
