Columbus Weekend 2013 brings the free 2nd Annual Key Largo Songfest to Downtown Key Largo Friday through Sunday, Oct. 11-13, from 7-10 p.m. The Downtown Key Largo Association hosts a group of professional songwriters at three different venues simultaneously including Lisa Carver, Billy Livesay (of Foghat), and Jon Nite. Performances are at Bayside Grille, The Pilot House and Key Largo Fisheries Backyard Cafe. The sole festival finale Sunday evening at Bayside Grille features Australian hit songwriter Peter Harper and his didgeridoo at Bayside Grille.
Nite has had recent success with cuts by Blake Shelton, Thompson Station and a new duet by Keith Urban/Miranda Lambert.
For two days, the complimentary Island Time Shuttle will transport guests among the three sites to enjoy music from additional professional songwriters: Ben de la Cour, Mark Stephen Jones, Mark Stepakoff, Rick Stewart, and Bud Tower. The event’s writers have penned tunes for additional top artists including Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams, Jr., Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Jewel, Sugarland and many more.
Bayside Grille Owner Robert DiGiorgio said, “We are thrilled to welcome such great artists to Key Largo again in 2013. We are eager to hear singer-songwriters who are shaping the music of today as well and songs of the past. We have three great venues for a fun-filled weekend and an excellent opportunity to spotlight Key Largo on the three-day Columbus Weekend.”
The three-day event offers a unique opportunity for music lovers to enjoy songs as sung by their creators as well as “the story behind the song”—how and why they got written. The event is sponsored by the Key Largo Downtown Association, The American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP),and Ketel One Vodka. It also offers great, waterfront venues in the Downtown Key Largo area, representing what the area has to offer.
