Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis will be coming to Needham this month to speak about teen suicide prevention.
Needham has lost five teens to suicide in the past five years.
“We’re not expecting him to talk baseball statistics,” Karen Goldenberg, associate director of community relations for Riverside Community Care of Dedham, told the Globe. “We’re expecting he’ll talk about why this issue is so important.”
The fund-raiser, called “Strike Out Teen Suicide,” will take place on July 25 at the Sheraton Needham Hotel from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
According to its website, the event’s goal is to learn more about how the heartbreak of suicide has impacted local families and how to prevent future tragedies. The money raised will help fund an expansion to Riverside’s suicide prevention programs in response to critical community needs.
Since coming to Boston in 2004, Kevin Youkilis has won two World Series rings, two All-Star elections, and a Gold Glove. He recently signed a four-year extension to his contract.
