Kevin Ware leg news was not good on Sunday (March 31). Ware broke his leg playing in an Elite Eight game against the Duke Blue Devils, putting several of his teammates into tears. According to a report from ESPN, he broke the bone in his lower right leg when he landed awkwardly toward the end of the first half.
Upon landing wrong, Ware immediately went to the ground and was writhing in pain on the floor. Anyone watching the game on television had to cringe the second the replay was shown. It hit his teammates even harder, as Wayne Blackshear fell to the floor crying, Chane Behanan looked like he was going to be sick while kneeling on his hands and feet, and Peyton Siva simply sat down while covering his mouth.
When the Kevin Ware leg injury took place, Louisville was enjoying a 21-20 lead over the Duke Blue Devils. Deep into the second half of the game, they have pushed that lead to 57-44, possibly spurred on by thoughts of their fallen teammate. At last report, Ware was taken to Indianapolis' Methodist Hospital, where he could end up having surgery on his leg as early as Sunday night.
This tragic turn of events could have done in this Louisville squad, but instead it looks like they are now on a mission to win this one for their fallen teammate.
