Kevin Smith and Phase 4 Films buy 'Newlyweeds' and 'Milkshake'

Phase 4 Films and Kevin Smith (Chasing Amy, Dogma, Clerks) have purchased the rights to Shaka King’s feature debut “Newlyweeds.” The deal went down over the weekend of the Sundance Film Festival. Smith and Phase 4 also picked up the rights to “Milkshake,” a production that will be shown theatrically and then will go to VOD. “Milkshake” will be a part of the Kevin Smith Movie Club. No release date is set for the film.

“Newlyweeds” is a black comedy about a stoner who has fallen in love. He has fallen hard – for two special loves. Lyle (Amari Cheatom) is head over heels in love with Nina (Trae Harris) and with Mary Jane. Who will he choose?

With Kevin Smith behind the deal, “Newlyweeds” will probably be a film worth watching. Kevin Smith is known for his comedy films such as “Chasing Amy,” “Dogma,” “Clerks” and “Mall Rats.” Smith is a brilliant writer/actor/director and wouldn’t stand behind the film if some element of “Newlyweeds” was not worthy of the comedy genre.
