Kevin Harvick, driving the #4 Jimmy John’s Chevrolet, will lead the field to the green Sunday for the 55th Annual Oral-B USA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, after winning the Coors Light Pole Award this evening. Harvick turned the fastest lap time at 29.118 seconds, 190.398 mph. The track record was set by Geoffrey Bodine Nov. 15, 1997 with a lap time of 28.074 seconds, 197.478 mph.
Harvick has 12th career pole in 491 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. This is his first pole in 24 starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Harvick leads the Coors Light Pole Awards with a total of six for the 2014 season.
“It’s good to have the boss back,” Harvick said. “He (Tony Stewart) told me to go with what I knew from practice, and we switch our line there in (Turns) 1 and 2 and we were a lot better on the bottom….It seem like there’s a lot more ‘back to normal’ with Tony here this week. Hope fully, we can turn this starting stuff into a win this weekend.”
Brad Keselowski starts second in his 20th top-10 start for the 2014 season with a lap time of 29.170 seconds. Kyle Larson will start third as the fastest qualifying rookie. Ryan Newman, Matt Kenseth, Martin Truex Jr., Aric Almirola, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart qualified fourth through twelfth for the Sunday evenings race.
