On Thursday, August 18, 2011, Alyssa Ravkov filed for divorce from Kevin Collier. The former couple had a 1 year old daughter Rhilee, and operated a small dog kennel specializing in English Mastiffs, called "Big Dogs."
On Friday, August 19, 2011, a Craigslist ad selling household goods directed people to the couple's home located at 1033 Prince Street. The ad was titled: "Everything must go" and stated, "Everything you need for your kitchen and more. Name your own price. I just want the stuff gone."
On Sunday, August 21, 2011, police received reports of a child being shot at the Prince Street home. A fire erupted as quickly as the gunfire had moments earlier. One of the responding El Cajon police officers was shot in the neck and although gravely wounded, is expected to survive. Neighbors mentioned worrying about family safety but so far there has been no follow up regarding their concerns.
The house fire became so intense a nearby freeway was closed partly due to intense smoke, and the unknown whereabouts of Kevin Collier, who police considered armed and dangerous. Repeated attempts to extinguish the flames were initially unsuccessful.
Bodies are in house. One of them is thought to be the Kevin Collier's mother-in-law. Riley, the one year old was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in Collier's truck.
Police suspect Collier's body may be inside, also.
Although it was a deadly weekend for mothers and children, three New Mexico children escaped a deadly attack although their mother,Jenny Bates- Solomon, did not.
Familylawcourts.com added a "Trending" section as murder has become a growing response to divorce. Increasingly, family court judges are being encouraged to attend Lethality conferences to better gauge the propensity for inter-family violence and appropriate responses.
