Ketogenic foods roll out as high-fat diets are embraced for weight loss

Ketogenic diets are beginning to enjoy an unexpected mainstream popularity, buoyed by recent scientific reports noting that unprocessed saturated fat can promote weight loss and prevent disease. So it's no surprise that corporate America is responding by rolling out ketogenic food products for a mainstream audience.

In an exclusive interview, Ram Sesha, the CEO of Nectid Inc., a New Jersey-based nutritional technology company, discussed why he thinks health-conscious people are ready to embrace ketogenic coffee, protein bars, and shakes.

'Not Just For Athletes Anymore'

Sesha, who has a background in organic chemistry, said he has been pleasantly surprised by recent scientific reports touting the benefits of consuming healthy fats and reducing carb intake.

Sesha said Nectid recently rolled out ketogenic coffee, protein bars and protein shakes under the brand name LipiX, directed toward mainstream consumers.

In the past, these specialty food items would appeal to a niche audience such as bodybuilders and athletes, but our products are for everyone. LipiX products are targeted toward health-conscious coffee drinkers and ketogenic dieters, particularly for those with busy work and travel schedules. Some clinicians use our products for persons affected with certain medical conditions."

While it's always better to eat real food such as grass-fed beef and pastured butter, ketogenic protein bars, coffee, and shakes can be convenient during hikes, long bike rides, or when traveling. Who wants to tote along a jar of MCT oil and a steak when they get the nutrients mixed together for them in a ketogenic shake or protein bar?

Ketogenic Diet Can Starve Cancer Cells

The ketogenic diet has been around for decades, but has only recently begun to find mainstream acceptance as a way to promote rapid weight loss and prevent and manage disease.

A ketogenic diet has already proven more effective than drugs at controlling epileptic seizures, and has been shown to reverse type 2 diabetes. Neurologist Dr. David Perlmutter, author of Grain Brain, told me the high-fat ketogenic diet can prevent ADHD and Alzheimer's disease.

Cancer researcher Dr. Dominic D'Agostino of the University of South Florida Medical School, told me a ketogenic diet can starve cancer to death because cancer cells thrive on sugar.

According to Dr. D'Agostino, we are only as healthy as our mitochondria, which are the power sources of all our cells, so if we keep our mitochondria healthy, we can stall the onset of cancer and other age-related diseases.

"Healthy mitochondria are the ultimate cancer tumor suppressor," said D'Agostino, who has a Ph.D. in physiology and neuroscience. "And one way to keep mitochondria healthy is through the ketogenic diet, which stimulates mitochondrial biogenesis and enhances mitochondrial efficiency."

Nectid has licensed 19 patents during the last three years, and one of its licensed products is in clinical study with Germany's GrĂ¼nenthal GmbH. Check out all LipiX ketogenic products on Amazon:
