Kesha is unrecognizable on the cover of Teen Vogue magazine. The singer is on the cover for the August issue, and inside she spoke out openly about the changes she is making in her life. Her new look is just one of the changes she has made. The dollar sign is gone from her name too. Kesha is an entirely new woman it seems. The Spread It shared the cover photo and some of Kesha's comments from the interview inside on June 26.
Kesha is trying to bounce back after spending time in rehab earlier this year. The singer, who is known for her outrageous looks and out there personality, entered rehab to fight an eating disorder. Kesha spent time at the Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center in Illinois. She admitted herself back in January, and the singer did not hide anything at all when it came to her eating disorder. She spoke out about that openly. She said the following:
"My eating disorder is something I've been struggling with for a while. People will make up stories, but I went to rehab for an eating disorder—nothing more and nothing less. Making my last record, Warrior, was a pretty miserable process, and it wore my spirit down. I was fighting like hell to keep my whole irreverent essence and everything raw and visceral that I stand for in it, but in the end I was promoting something that wasn't the animal I wanted it to be. I decided to face my problem head-on."
During her time in rehab, the singer kept herself busy. She worked on music for her third studio album. She recorded 14 tracks during her stay. She has admitted in recent interviews that her new music may surprise her fans. It is not the music they are used to hearing from the singer. She is known for songs like "Only Want To Dance With You" and "Timber."
There is controversy surrounding "Timber" currently though. She recorded the song with Pitbull, and there is a report from TMZ that a man is suing the record company that released "Timber" because the riff used in the song was taken from one of his songs released in 1978. Lee Oskar is not suing Kesha or Pitbull. The lawsuit is for $3 million over copyright infringement. In the lawsuit, it is claimed that the harmonica player for "Timber" was instructed to mimic Oskar's style.
Kesha is not only focusing on her own music these days. She is one of the mentors on ABC's new reality singer competition series called "Rising Star." She has joined Brad Paisley and Ludacris on the judging panel, and Josh Groban is the host. The series has already premiered, and ABC is hoping they have found their own answer to the singing reality competition. NBC has "The Voice" and "America's Got Talent." Fox still has "American Idol." ABC is hoping "Rising Star" can keep up with the big boys, but so far the reception to the new series has been cold.
According to Deadline, 5.1 million tuned in to watch the premiere. That put the series in second place behind "America's Got Talent." That sounds good, but the series only had a demo of 1.5/5. That is not good. Kesha has admitted that she is honest with her comments on the series. She isn't mean, but she has "no filter." She is definitely excited about the series though. She said the following about working with the contestants for the series, according to UPI:
"It's terrifying for those kids. I feel so bad for them, but I'm really excited. I think people would be surprised how different I would like the talent to be. I want country, I want polka -- all of it!"
Kesha is definitely trying to make a big change in her life. She revealed to Teen Vogue that the" insanity is not gone" completely, but she is trying to change things. The stay in rehab has opened her eyes apparently. Not only does she has a new look, new music on the way, and a new television show, but she also has a new man in her life. The singer is dating Brad Ashenfelter, and she called him a "really sweet human being" in a recent interview shared by Hollywood Life.
What do you think? Are you ready for Kesha's new music? Are you watching "Rising Star" on ABC? Kesha's interview with Teen Vogue Magazine will hit store shelves on July 15.
