Did you know that Kern County Animal Control offers free microchipping for the county resident's pets? It is one of the many ways that the Kern County Animal Control department provides much needed services for the welfare of our residents and their companion animals.
According to the Kern County Animal Control Facebook page : "...KCAC offers FREE MICROCHIPS to residents during all open hours at our shelters. Bring your pet down with you - it takes just 10 minutes."
Microchipping your dog or cat can insure that they are identified and returned to you in the event they are lost or stolen. The microchip is about the size of a grain of rice, and the Veterinarian or Vet Technician, injects the microchip under the skin between the shoulder blades of your cat or dog. It takes about as much time as getting a shot, and is pretty much the same process. Once your pet is microchipped, you can go to the microchip company's website to register and to update the information about how to contact you (if you move, always remember to update this information).
If you were to purchase and have the microchip injected at a Veterinarian's office, it might cost you up to $50, depending upon the brand and the labor involved. But our Kern County Animal Control services will do it for FREE. Definitely worth your time to do this for your pet.
And while you are there, you might renew your pet's license or find out about affordable options for Spay/Neuter - or perhaps even adopt another friend!
