Kermit the Frog will not perform “Man or Muppet,” nominated for Best Original Song, during Sunday’s Oscars. But there is good news for fans looking for a little Muppet love during Academy Awards night. Kermit and “Glee’s” Darren Criss will be performing at the E! Oscar pre-show tomorrow.
The Feb. 24 press release for the E! Oscar pre-show revealed “Man or Muppet” will not be performed by the two entertainers. Instead, the “only performance by Kermit the Frog” that day will be “Rainbow Connection” - with Criss.
The duet of “Rainbow Connection,” the iconic Kermit song from “The Muppet Movie” (1979), was pitched as a celebration of “Man or Muppet” from “The Muppets” (2011).
Still, the E! performance does offer some welcomed Muppet musical stylings on Oscar night, which is exciting news for fans of the frog.
Criss himself may be such a fan, as he Tweeted a picture of himself with Kermit to his followers. The Tweet said, "At rehearsal with Kermit. And I thought I had a froggy voice! #Muppets #ERedCarpet"
Criss is Kermit’s singing companion for the night. Kermit will present at the Academy Awards with his passionate partner, Miss Piggy.
So the Oscars aren’t quite a showcase for the Muppets and Bret McKenzie’s “Man or Muppet;” neither of the two Best Original Song nominees will be performed. But at least the “Rainbow Connection” does offer a little something for the lovers, the dreamers, and me.
