Six more weeks of winter? Maybe not. No matter what the groundhog decides to do this year, some people will be celebrating the outcome. Broad Run Vineyards, located in the southeast corner of Jefferson County in Louisville, is hosting a free event on Saturday, February 2, 2013. Beginning at 6 p.m., local entertainer, Lewis Mathis, will be playing music, snacks will be served, and wine will be available for purchase.
Located on 72 acres, Broad Run Vineyards is run by three generations of the Kushner and Hyatt families. What started out as an experiment in 1983 with 20 varietals on 15 acres grew into their first vintage being released in 1994. Successful years followed leading to the construction of an 8,000 square foot facility in 2003 for a new winery and tasting room. All of the wines at Broad Run Vineyards are made from estate grown grapes. Tastings up to 18 different wines in a souvenir glass are available for $10. Vineyard hours are open Wednesday to Saturday, 12 – 6 p.m., and Sunday, 1 – 6 p.m.
Broad Run Vineyards offers space to host parties, weddings and corporate events. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, a Sweetheart Dinner will be held on Saturday, February 16. A candlelight dinner at 6 p.m. will feature a buffet dinner with pecan chicken and smoked beef brisket, with entertainment by Perfect Alibi. For reservations, call (502) 231-0372. The cost for the dinner is $30 per person if reservations are made by February 6th; $35 per after that date. For those not wishing to attend the dinner, there is a $5 cover fee per person.
Be sure to mark your calendars to attend two annual events hosted at Broad Run Vineyards. A chicken barbeque is held in May and the annual pig roast is in October. They provide the meat; you bring the side dishes. Selection of wines will be plentiful. Check the website for upcoming dates.
Head out to Broad Run Vineyards on Saturday for an entertaining evening. Hopefully you won’t catch the groundhog roaming in the vineyards.
