Kentucky school shooting: 2 killed, 1 injured after incident at HCTC

Two were killed in a college shooting Tuesday night when shots were fired at the Hazard Community and Technical College in Kentucky. Kentucky.com shared the available details on Jan. 15 regarding the shooting that apparently left two dead and one teen injured.

The shooting is said to have happened before 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the First Federal Center Building on campus. One critically injured teen was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, but little else about the victims, shooter or motive has been shared. Luckily, it seems that the school parking lot may have been the setting for the shooting, but it wasn't anyone within the school who was involved. Regardless, the students in the two campus buildings were put under lockdown as authorities worked through the situation after the two were found killed in the college shooting.

The Hazard Herald shares that two victims were found in a car in the parking lot, while one was in the lot. One victim in the back of the car was still alive, and it seems that is the victim who was transported to the hospital. There are indications that the shooting had nothing to do with the school itself, luckily. Hazard Police Chief Minor Allen said, “It's something that occurred off campus that just spilled into the parking lot of the school.” He adds that one person is in custody and the weapon has been recovered. The school was on lockdown throughout much of the evening, but it seems the situation is under control at HCTC. The names of the two killed in the college shooting have not yet been released.
