Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear has requested assistance for farmers in more than 20 counties. The assistance request is for those who faced income losses from the statewide flooding.
On Friday Beshear said he made the request to U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
All across Kentucky farmers have lost crops and infrastructure due to the severe weather and resulting flooding.
The request seeks assistance for farmers in 21 counties mostly in western Kentucky that were hit by storms and flooding in the last half of April. Counties in the request are Ballard, Breckinridge, Caldwell, Graves, Hancock, Henderson, Marion, Marshall, McCracken, Carlisle, Crittenden, Daviess, Fulton, Hickman, Hopkins, Livingston, Lyon, McLean, Muhlenberg, Union and Webster.
