According to KFVS 12 News, a Paducah, Ky., man was arrested for allegedly hanging his dog in his backyard.

Deputies responded to the home of 51-year-old Kenneth Boyd after the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department received a report of possible animal cruelty from an anonymous caller last Monday.

Boyd, who has prior convictions for assault, DUI and drug possession, admitted to the deputies that he had killed his five-year-old pit bull, "Stoner," by hanging the dog with an electrical cord.

The man claimed that he "had" to kill Stoner because he could not longer afford the dog's care, and because the dog was vicious.

After the dog was dead, Boyd buried him in the yard - officials retrieved Stoner's body so that a necropsy could be completed.

Boyd has already pleaded guilty to his second degree animal cruelty charge and a judge sentenced him to 12 months behind bars.
