It’s springtime again in the Mile High City, which is signified by an upswing in patio drinking, Rockies season in full swing, as well as The Kentucky Derby weekend. Yes it’s time to pick those cleverly named horses again as they give it their all for a chance at the title. I’m pulling for Awesome Act myself. While Denver’s big hot spot has been the Botanical Gardens Derby party, it is quite expensive. There are other places around the LoDo area that are having their own derby parties that are sure to be just as fun!
One of Lower Downtown’s favorites, Spill Lounge (1410 Market Street) is opening at noon on derby day. There is no cover to come and enjoy the race. They are featuring $12 bottomless mimosas, which is a perfect way to start off an afternoon of drinking on their beautiful rooftop patio. Other drink specials include $4 42 Below drinks, $3 Giddy up shots, 2 for 1 Mint Juleps, and buy and bottle and get a bottle of 42 Below Vodka for free.
Everyone is encouraged to dress in their derby best. It’s always a great scene to see everyone step out of their weekend attire and don the classic big hats and suit coats. Spill is having a contest for the best ladies hat, best dressed stud, and a pick the ponies challenge. Donations for the day are encouraged, as a portion of the days proceeds are going to www.wildbirdrehab.com. To reserve table service for the day call 720-932-0181.
