Kentucky author explores landscape of human relationships in "That Tender Light"

Asked to unravel the mysterious disappearance of novelist and Medal of Honor recipient Jack Taylor, investigative reporter Lockwood McGuire discovers the many permutations of a life layered with secrets in D. James Then's debut novel, "That Tender Light."

Part love story, part adventure, Then skillfully weaves a tale that navigates through period and place, unflagging in its hold on the mystery at hand.

An intrepid and celebrated reporter, McGuire begrudingly accepts the assignment, which he deems beneath his talents. Ultimately, he finds himself entrenched in the mystery of a man with a tortured soul and a dark past. At the heart of the story is a wise, 98-year-old, Indiana woman named Missy Lee, who holds the key to the many secrets that define the life of Jack Taylor. When McGuire's research leads him to her Indiana farm he learns about Taylor's unpublished novel, "That Tender Light," which reveals a life of lost love, secret assassination missions during the Vietnam War, and Taylor's time as a POW.
