At a recent singer songwriter evening at Hotel Indigo I was able to enjoy and listen to a set from Kenny Lewis.

Kenny is originally from Portsmouth Ohio.

Kenny’s set list were original tunes either written or cowritten included:

Sorrier then Me, Doing my Best, The Promise, Roger That, and Nashville to Norfolk.

Kenny’s voice full rich and full of stories about the human experience is easy to connect with. One of the songs Nashville to Norfolk tells the story of traveling to see his fiancée and the journey along the way. Great story.

The song Roger That grew from being a big fan of Roger McGuinn. It was picked up by Roger which is the ultimate compliment.

Kenny Lewis is the bassist for Brad Paisley and has a fabulous history of being in the music business.

Kenny took the time to sit down and do an interview with me and shared some of his experiences.

Kenny is a second generation musician that regularly plays The Grand Ole Opry. His father Wayne Lewis was the guitarist and vocalist with Bill Monroe.

Kenny was fortunate to fill in for his Father on the Grand Ole Opry with Bill Monroe at 19.

The first band Kenny toured with and worked full time with was Jimmy Martin “ The King of Bluegrass.”

Kenny also toured with David Allen Coe for a year.

Kenny married and stayed in town to raise a family and met Billy Dean at the bars and toured with him four years.

Kenny credits Billy Dean for encouraging him to write.

Billy put two of Kenny’s cuts on his albums:

She Gets What She Wants, and I’m A Fool Too.

Another one of Kenny’s songs that he cowrote was picked up by Brad Paisley on American Saturday Night it is the song” She’s Her Own Woman.”

Kenny is a real utility man in the sense that he used to cover the driving shifts on the road in the early days in the motor homes and now also can drive the bus for the tour a useful and needed part of touring life.

Kenny’s musical history and varied talents show how multitalented individuals are within the musical community.

Very grateful and happy to be with Brad Paisley he says the band is very top notch musicians, Brad is a great boss and a good guy and freind.
